Me and my mum recently visited London for 1 day for a quick trip on the train from Wakefield to King's cross and back. We planned an early train which left at 06:18am and we arrived in London for 09:30am which is a perfect time to get out and about to see the city. Before we went we discussed the places we wanted to see and the things we wanted to do. We have been to London multiple times but every time you visit this city there is more new things to see and do. Sometimes we still visit the same places over and over again because it is just so inspiring and breath taking. 1. Camden Market I had actually never visited Camden or Camden market until this weekend and I have no idea why! Camden Market is a very unique inspiring experience. Lots of culture, food, entertainment and best of all handmade crafts being sold. When you visit your senses will go in to over drive there is so much to see and experience. The market began in 1974 and then developed in to a complex of markets. What I hadn't realised before I visited was the market use to be a horse hospital. In the Victorian times the stables were where the horses who became injured pulling barges down the canals would go for treatment. When you walk around the market you can see the remains of the old stables and doors. A statue of the iconic British singer Amy Winehouse is located in the Stables Market which was revealed on 14th September 2014 which would have been her 31st birthday. If you love to spend time wandering around looking at great clothing, gifts, crafts and enjoying music and food this is a great place to start. There is lots of vegan food stalls but also thai street food. 2. Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason Fortnum & Mason is one of my favourite department store to visit when i visit London especially at christmas time when it has amazing decorations on display. It feels like being in a christmas movie like Home Alone. It is located in Piccadilly where it was established in 1707. It is a great place to buy anything and everything you can imagine but I love to look at the confectionary area. When I visited earlier this year in March me and my sister treated my mum to Mother's Day afternoon tea and it was divine. It had a more relaxed feel about it then some other places I have been for afternoon tea and believe me you don'y leave feeling hungry! 3. Tate Modern Viewing Platform I haven't been to the iconic Shard yet in London but when I visited London last year to see friends who live there they showed us some incredible views of London from the Tate Modern gallery viewing platform on the 10th floor. The gallery is free entry and you take the lift up to the 10th floor and when you walk out you see incredible views of the city. I feel like its the Rockefeller Centre of New York where you get to see the Empire State Building. The Shard is still on my bucket list. 4. Harrods Although I have already mentioned Fortum & Mason a popular historic department store in London already on the list Harrods is definitely a must see when visiting the city. Harrods is located in Knightsbridge which in itself is an area of London to spend time exploring and wandering around the amazing architectural buildings and shops. If you walk around the streets in knightsbridge you feel you are surrounded by the ultra rich. Enjoy looking at all the amazing cars pulling up outside the department store you will see anything from Rolls Royce to Lamborghini. Harrods was founded in 1834 and covers 1 million square feet of retail space. The store has something for everyone including restaurants (you can have afternoon tea here as well) clothing, home accessories, food courts and children's department. You could spend hours wandering around the store just be aware that they don't allow you to take suitcases in with you so you have to pay to check them in to the hold and then collect them when you leave. Harrods does get busy especially at christmas time. Harrods is a great place to explore food and drinks from around the world. I love looking at all the patisseries (as always). It's a great place to buy souvenirs for friends and family. When ever I go to Harrods I always like to see the Princess Diana and Dodi al Fayed statue which there are 2 within the store but this one is my favourite. 5. Walks along River Thames Walking along the River Thames is just a really breath taking experience. You are surrounded by the culture of London, the architecture and the spirit of the city. Great viewing points include the Shard, Tower Bridge and the London Eye. This image was taking at sunset and you can see the London Eye in the distance. The London eye is a great viewing point where you can see the Houses of Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral. I captured this image last night when walking along the bridge during the evening. The shard is in the distance lighting up the city and London Bridge can be seen also. I love visiting London at all different times of the year. When ever you plan to visit you will have an amazing time in this vibrant city.
