In May 2015 I planned our first ever trip to the Amalfi Coast Italy! I had never been before but from seeing stunning pictures of Capri and Positano I needed to visit this beautiful location. So we decided to go to celebrate Tom's birthday. I organised the hotel and booked it through Travel Republic online www.travelrepublic.co.uk/v2/ We flew from Leeds Bradford airport to Naples. I had organised a transfer from the airport to the hotel and I am so glad I did! The roads in Italy are scary! The long winding roads along the coast are very scenic but people drive so fast along the roads I would be too scared to have drove ourselves. The driver was so lovely he stopped off half way to the hotel when we got to a perfect viewing point and took pictures of us. After researching all the different areas of the Amalfi Coast to stay I really wanted to be in Amalfi. The hotel is situated on a main road across from the sea. The view from our room was spectacular and really made the experience! I booked a room with a balcony so that we could have a sea view and be able to chill out in the day time and enjoy some relax time. The hotel was very clean, great size room and the owners were so lovely and friendly. Even though the hotel is on a main road the noise wasn't an issue. There is a bus stop across the road which is handy if you want to go down in to the main town. We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast in the morning was traditional continental with croissants (and nutella :) mozzarella, salami, yogurts, bread, fresh juices and cereals. We enjoyed relaxing on the balcony in the day catching the gorgeous Italian coast weather and then we would walk down to Amalfi town later in the day. The walk down to the town from the hotel is about 15-20 minutes. Great exercise! The walk is a little scary at times due to the Italian way of driving and the small roads by the coast so please be careful! As you walk down the street you will come across a hotel called HOTEL SANTA CATERINA which you may have seen pictures of on social media it is a 5* hotel and it looks so stunning on the cliff side! It's the hotel Kim Kardashian stayed in for her honeymoon with Kris Humphreys. This hotel is on my list of places to stay when I return :) Amalfi town is a great place for food, drinks and lots of people watching (my fav thing to do). The restaurants are lovely and rustic. There is lots of pizza and pasta and when you order food in Italy you get Limoncello as an aperitif :) One of the restaurants we really loved going to was called La Preferita it was a rustic Italian restaurant a little walk from our hotel. It did the most amazing lasagne! The owners only spoke Italian and all the food was home made. We loved this lemon dessert and I would highly recommend trying the restaurant if you plan to visit. For Tom's birthday we wanted to experience one of the most recommended restaurants in Amalfi so we asked the hotel owners for a recommendation. They advised to us to try Ristorante Da Ciccio Cielo Mare Terra which was established in 1931! and is one of the oldest restaurants on the coast! The restaurant has a driver who will come and pick you up from your hotel to take you for your meal. The restaurant was amazing! They have all window views and the food is so fresh and tasty. They have a garden at the restaurant with all home grown fruit and vegetables. We had a server who was lovely and then when we looked in the menu there was a picture of him and his family who own the restaurant and he has worked there for year and he is still so involved with the every day run of the business it was so nice a quaint. www.ristorantedaciccio.com/ Hope you enjoyed my post on Amalfi.
