If you haven't experienced New York at Christmas yet it's time to get it on your bucket list. New York goes all out during the festive season and there is nothing more exciting than seeing all the New York attractions with christmas lights glistening and christmas songs playing in Macy's. This time last year I visited New York with family here's a sneak preview of our time in NY. Our first stop off in NY was to see the New York Knicks play at Madison Square Gardens. It was my first every basketball game and my first time at the iconic stadium. We went after our long flight from Manchester UK to New York and it was the best plan as it kept us all awake to get use to the time difference. We watched the New York Knicks vs The Mavericks. I purchased the tickets prior to going to NY via Ticketmaster. I find pre booking some attractions/experiences better so that you don't eat in to your holiday cash. The basketball games are amazing in America. There upbeat and like a show with intervals and performers. One of my favourite parts was spotting the celebrities court side and on the big screen (The popcorn was nice too). Before the basketball game we had food and drinks at a restaurant near Madison Square Gardens called Lucy's which did really nice Mexican food. The restaurant has a lovely roof top with views of the city and heaters to keep you warm in the winter. You also have an amazing view of the Empire State Building. Sightseeing is the ultimate must in NY the architecture and culture is just amazing. I would recommend buying tickets for the 'hop on hop off' red bus tour (iv mentioned it in my previous posts). We purchased a two day ticket to give us plenty of time to see everything we wanted to. The tour buses cover all the must see things in the city and you have a head set which gives you the history as you are driven around. The weather in November was nice enough to sit at the top of the bus to get a good view of the sights. On the tour bus we saw my favourite building in NY is the iconic Flat Iron Building: Iv seen it on films and TV and it was one of my must see sights while in the city. If you want to see it you will find it on 175 on fifth avenue in Manhattan. It was completed in 1902 and is known to be one of the most photographed buildings in the world! Grand Central Station is a must see on the tour of the city. You will find it on 42nd street Park Avenue. It has featured in so many films and until you step inside the busy station you wont appreciate how amazing it is to see in real life. It can be busy during commute times but when you walk in if you look up to the ceiling you will see an astronomical painting on the roof which is beautiful to look at. Grand Central always reminds me of Christmas films. The One World Trade Centre - also know as the Freedom Tower is an amazing building to see when walking around the city. Located on 285 Fulton Street. It was constructed in 2006 (5 years after the attacks in 2001) and is known to be the 10th tallest free standing structure in the world. I would always recommend to people visiting NY to see Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial Museum. When you are there it is a surreal feeling that you get the energy around the memorial is something you find hard to explain to people. It's always very peaceful and people reflect on 9/11. I visited NY 4 years ago and the Museum was open but very small and the memorial wasn't open to the public so it was really nice to see the development finished. It really is a beautiful memorial. Going through the museum is hard due to all the video recordings of what happened on the day and photos but feels like a personal way of being able to pay your respects. We did a statue of liberty boat tour after the memorial which is a nice way to lighten your mood after seeing the museum and feeling over come with emotion. I would recommend doing the tour at sunset it felt so magical and the colours from the sky really made the evening more special.
